Henslee publishes articles about drinking during St. Pat’s

Dr. Amber Henslee, assistant professor of psychological science, has published two journal articles about her research into drinking during St. Pat’s. According to Henslee’s research into college student health-related behaviors, there isn’t as much drinking as people think. Her articles appear in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs and Addictive Behaviors.

Westenberg writes for special edition of microbiology education journal

Dr. Dave Westenberg, associate professor of biological sciences, has contributed to the scientific citizenship-themed issue (Vol 17, Issue 1) of the American Society for Microbiology’s Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education (JMBE). His article is titled “The Engaged Microbiologist: Bringing the Microbiological Sciences to the K–12 Community.”

Butler named outreach chair for DARN

Rachel Butler, the Dallas regional senior admissions counselor for Missouri S&T, has been selected as the outreach chair for the Dallas Area Regional Network (DARN) organization for regionally based admissions counselors. Butler has also been selected as a member of the Texas Association of College Admissions Counseling (TACAC) state Conference Planning Committee.

Carrie Levy, a senior in engineering management from Columbia, Missouri, has been named the 2016 HNTB Founder’s Scholarship recipient from the AREMA Foundation. AREMA is the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association.

Bruening named Fulbright scholar

Dr. Michael Bruening, associate professor of history and political science, has been awarded a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant to France. The grant will allow him to conduct research during the fall 2016 semester in Paris, where he will be associated with the Centre Roland Mousnier for Early Modern History at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Bruening also received a University of Missouri Research Board grant to help support his research in France.

Fogg named to ‘French History’ editorial board

Dr. Shannon Fogg, chair and associate professor of history and political science, was named to the editorial board of the journal French History. Published by Oxford University Press, the journal reaches over 3,000 institutions worldwide. During her five-year term, Fogg will be responsible for reviewing articles related to 20th-century French history, particularly those focused on the 1940s. Fogg has previously served on the editorial board of the journal French Historical Studies, published by Duke University Press.

Oerther earns AAEES award

Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, the John A. and Susan Mathes Chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, has earned the Superior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) for his work to improve water quality in the Ixcan region of Guatemala. The award will be presented April 14 at the academy’s annual Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science celebration at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
