Mormile named distinguished lecturer by ASM

Dr. Melanie Mormile, special assistant to the provost for faculty affairs and professor of biological sciences, was named an American Society for Microbiology Distinguished Lecturer (ASMDL) for a two-year term. The ASMDL program annually selects a scientifically diverse group of lecturers to deliver lectures at ASM branch meetings throughout the country. Lecturers are chosen through a competitive nomination process, and only the most distinguished lecturers and researchers are chosen to participate.

EMSE Ph.D. student selected for best paper

Hadi Fahrangi, Ph.D. student in systems engineering, has been selected for the IISE ISERC Best Paper-Operations Research Track — at an upcoming annual meeting. Fahrangi’s paper is titled “A Separation Method for the Multi-objective Set Covering Problem” and is advised by Dr. Dincer Konur, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering.

Hor among highest-cited researchers in 2015

Dr. Yew San Hor, assistant professor of physics, has been named a 2015 Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher. Thomson Reuters analyzed citation data over an 11-year period using Web of Science and InCites to identify highly cited researchers. This is the second year in a row that Hor has received this honor. Hor is also listed in Thomson Reuters’ list of the 2015 World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.
