Three faculty receive UM System President’s Awards
Three Missouri S&T faculty members have been honored recently with President’s Awards, the highest honor bestowed by the University of Missouri System, for excellence in advancing the mission of the university. Dr. John Myers has been selected as a top educator by the Architectural Engineering Institute. Myers is associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Engineering and Computing, and a professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering.

Four Missouri S&T faculty members have been awarded seed funding for two interdisciplinary projects related to S&T’s Smart Living signature area. The awards were selected from 13 proposals from 11 departments and 29 faculty members. Smart Living co-directors Dr. Bruce McMillin and Dr. Nancy Stone selected the winning proposals in consultation with the associate deans of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business and the College of Engineering and Computing. Thanks to a new grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Missouri S&T students will explore the cultures of Latin American countries they visit and earn course credit. Mathias Whitworth received the 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Virtus Dynamical Chemical Engineering Student Award, sponsored by MYNAH Technologies, on April 12 in St. Louis. He received the award for outstanding scholarship and service to AIChE. In addition to many other accomplishments, he has led the AIChE Chem-E-Car team for two years.

Dr. Christi Luks, associate professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, accompanied 25 chemical engineering undergraduate students to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Mid-America Regional Student Conference March 30-April 2 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rain did not dampen the celebration of Earth Day at Missouri S&T on April 20. The event drew more than 900 children from Rolla and area schools and more than 40 exhibitors that provided hands-on activities. While visiting campus, University of Missouri System President Mun Choi stopped by the festivities.

Tyler Johnson, transfer counselor in admissions at Missouri S&T, has been named co-chair of the Professional Development Committee for the Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling. The organization includes more than 500 professionals working in college admissions.
