S&T Student Emergency Fund helps students

The S&T Student Emergency Fund has been created by counseling, disability, support and student wellness (CDSW). This fund assists S&T students by providing financial support with unexpected emergency expenses that greatly affect their lives, including their ability to be successful academically. The financial support from this fund allows students to have their needs met and continue their education. Funds may be used for situations including medical care or prescriptions, groceries or essential academic expenses.

Campus community participates in strategic planning

More than 100 people attended the Strategic Planning Summit on Nov. 3 to review the progress made on Missouri S&T’s strategic plan. Approximately 175 people, including alumni, students, faculty and staff, met Nov. 10-11 at a mid-cycle opportunity review and analyzed steps taken for the plan and recommended changes.

Workshop focuses on building functional teams

A hands-on workshop, “Building Functional Teams in the Classroom and Beyond,” will be held 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Fundraising gets hairy for ‘Shop with a Cop’

You may have noticed that Chief Doug Roberts looks unshaven lately, or you may have seen other officers sporting beards and wearing jeans. No, it is not a new dress code for the Missouri S&T Police Department, but rather part of a fundraiser for the “Shop with a Cop” program. The police department is raising funds by participating in “no-shave November” and “Jean-vember” events. The Gamma Gamma Gamma chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and the S&T Optimists will help by holding a “Beard Off” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Beards will be judged and prizes will be awarded.

Grants available for faculty-led study abroad program development

Missouri S&T has joined the Institute for International Education’s Generation Study Abroad Initiative, and committed to doubling the number of S&T students who receive academic credit as part of a study abroad program. To help reach this goal, faculty are invited to submit a proposal for funding to assist in the design of a new study abroad course OR program for S&T students. Grants of $5,000 each are available to help defray costs associated with the development of such a program. The grants will be made available to faculty as a one-time transfer of funds.
