The new student programs staff is gearing up to welcome the next class of Miners. Ten Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) Days are scheduled on Saturdays in 2018:

  • Feb. 24
  • March 10
  • April 7 and 21
  • May 5
  • June 1, 8, 15 and 22
  • August 11

Opening Week will be held from Sunday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 17.

Guitar workshop planned Jan. 19

Guitarist Todd Mosby will lead an acoustic guitar workshop 4-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Merle’s Music, located at 304 N. Bishop in Rolla. The workshop, sponsored by Leach Theatre and Merle’s Music, is free and open to the public. Please bring your guitar. Participants will learn simple principles and a systematic approach to developing guitar chops.

U.S. Naval Academy names McManus visiting professor

The United States Naval Academy has appointed Dr. John McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history, for a visiting professorship. He will serve as the Dr. Leo A. Shifrin Chair for a 10-month period during the 2018-19 academic term.

Jackling award goes to Frimpong

Dr. Samuel Frimpong will receive the 2017 Daniel C. Jackling Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) at a ceremony. Frimpong is the Robert H. Quenon Missouri Endowed Chair in Mining Engineering at Missouri S&T.

S&T faculty receive grants for affordable, open educational resources

Six Missouri S&T faculty are working to help students save money on textbooks with grants from the University of Missouri System. The grants are provided through the UM System Affordable & Open Educational Resources (A&OER) initiative. The program encourages faculty experimentation and innovation in finding new, better and less costly ways to deliver learning materials to students. U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best Online Programs rankings, released today (Tuesday, Jan. 9), include Missouri S&T’s online MBA program, 12 online graduate programs in engineering, and programs that are highly ranked in U.S. News’ non-MBA business and computer information technology categories. Article on industrial-organizational psychology one of most cited in field

Dr. Nancy J. Stone, professor of psychological science, co-authored an article that is ranked seventh among cited articles and book chapters in industrial-organizational psychology textbooks. The article, “Identification and Meta-analytic Assessment of Psychological Constructs Measured in Employment Interviews” was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology in 2001 and ranked relative to 6,654 articles and book chapters.
