NSF funding in advanced manufacturing
Dr. Zhijian (ZJ) Pei, a National Science Foundation (NSF) program director, will present a seminar titled “NSF funding opportunities in advanced manufacturing,” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Carver/Turner Room of the Havener Center. The Intelligent Systems Center is sponsoring its ninth annual Poster Presentation from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the upper atrium of the Havener Center. ISC-supported students will display posters highlighting current research on one of the following areas: intelligent manufacturing processes, equipment and systems, intelligent cyber-physical systems, advanced simulation, sensing, control and communications, computational intelligence, and embedded systems.

Read More »Newkirk receives Fellowship award
Dr. Joseph W. Newkirk, associate professor of metallurgical engineering at S&T, was recently named a 2013 Fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu, the Materials Honor Society. He was honored at the society’s 2013 meeting in Montreal, Canada. The award is given to those who achieve a “seminal international standing in the materials science and engineering profession.” Newkirk is the faculty advisor to the local student chapter of Alpha Sigma Mu.
