The Miner Alumni Association’s Student Leadership Award Endowed Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates academic excellence, service to the campus and community, personal objectives and goals, potential, and quality recommendations. If you know a student who you think would be a good candidate, encourage them to apply. Applications are due by Tuesday, March 31.

The Joe Mooney Distinguished Student Award is granted to students in their sophomore or junior year and is intended to recognize leadership and service. One award is given to an outstanding member of an organization, and one is given to an outstanding officer of an organization. Selected students will each receive $250 from the Miner Alumni Association. If you know a student who would be a good candidate for this award, encourage them to apply. The university has learned that Donald B. Higginbotham, retired lecturer of engineering management and systems engineering, died on Saturday, Jan. 17. No public visitation or memorial is expected to be held. Higginbotham taught at Missouri S&T from 1984 to 2010.

Gene Doty, former chair of English and technical communication, died last Friday. He served as chair of English and technical communication from 2006 until his retirement in 2009. He joined the faculty in 1967. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Eugene Northern Community Hall, 400 W. 4th St. in Rolla.

Walter F. Henry, former senior electronics technician in electrical engineering, died on Saturday, Jan. 3. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, in the Havener Center. Henry worked in the electrical and computer engineering department from 1969 to 1979.
