The Hispanic Film Festival kicks off this week with a 7 p.m. viewing of “Chinese take-away” on Friday, Jan. 23, in Room 138 Castleman Hall. More information, including a complete schedule of films, is available online.

“Chinese take-away” is based on a real event. Roberto, a gruff anti-social loner who lords over his tiny hardware store with a meticulous sense of control and routine, meets Jun, a Chinese man who has arrived in Argentina looking for his only living relative. Roberto takes him in, resulting in a series of absurd and hilarious situations.

The Missouri S&T Hispanic Film Festival has been made possible through a grant awarded to Dr. Jorge Porcel, associate professor of Spanish, by PRAGDA and Spain Arts & Culture, institutions engaged in the promotion of Spanish language and culture. The funds awarded by this grant have been match by the generous support of Dr. Stephen Roberts, vice provost and dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business; Dr. William Schonberg, chair and professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering; and Dr. Lance Haynes, chair and professor of arts, languages, and philosophy.
