A reliable laptop is an important part of your student’s success at Missouri S&T. While computer labs are available across campus, most students use their personal laptop for coursework, research and everyday academic activities.

Before the semester begins, encourage your student to confirm that their current computer meets the university’s recommended specifications. If a replacement or upgrade is needed, both Windows and Mac computers are compatible with the campus network, although some academic programs may recommend specific hardware or software.

Enrolled students can download Microsoft Office and other commonly used software at no additional cost through AppsAnywhere.

Recommended Windows configuration

  • Windows 11
  • Intel Core Ultra 7 processor (or equivalent)
  • 16 GB RAM minimum (32 GB recommended)
  • 512 GB solid-state drive (SSD)
  • Three- to five-year warranty with accidental damage protection (recommended)

If your student decides to purchase a new Dell computer, they are eligible for a 10% discount on select Dell products. As a Dell-Certified Campus, Missouri S&T’s IT Service Desk can also provide hardware diagnostics and help coordinate Dell warranty service, giving students access to convenient technical support while they’re on campus.

Questions? Contact the IT Service Desk at 573-341-4537 for guidance on recommended computer specifications or available support services.
