Dr. Daniel Reed, Presidential Professor Emeritus of Computational Science at the University of Utah and a nationally recognized leader in high‑performance computing and science policy, will present the Porth Lecture at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in Room 130 of the Welcome Center.
His talk is titled “Computing Futures in a Changing World: Insights from a Computing Career.” He will reflect on technical, economic and policy shifts that have shaped computing over the past several decades — and how those lessons can inform the future. Drawing on a career spanning academia, government advisory roles and leadership at Microsoft, Reed will explore topics such as the slowing of Moore’s Law, the rise of cloud computing and AI, and the growing intersections of technology with geopolitics, ethics and national security.
A reception with light refreshments will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
