The S&T IT team continues to enhance the university’s network infrastructure and is tentatively planning a major network upgrade from 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, through noon Sunday, Jan. 11. All network services including the internet, phones, access systems and alarms will be temporarily unavailable. The upgrade is scheduled for a low-activity day when campus is closed to minimize disruption.

Who and what is impacted?

  • All campus users including faculty, staff, researchers and students
  • Emergency systems including alarms, cameras and phones
  • Critical facilities, laboratories and campus residential spaces.

Why is this happening?

The upgrade is part of the ongoing modernization effort to create a more secure, reliable and efficient network that can better support critical systems, research operations and campus safety.

What is happening?

During the initial upgrade, network services will be temporarily unavailable. Some systems may experience intermittent outages before and after the scheduled upgrade window. Researchers and lab staff should ensure experiments or monitoring systems are properly paused or secured prior to the outage. IT staff will monitor the progress and restore services as quickly as possible.

When is it happening?

Tentatively scheduled to begin Saturday, Jan 10. More detailed communication with confirmed timing and specific instructions will be shared as the date approaches.

Timeline and impacted buildings:

  • Saturday, Jan. 10. The core network upgrade will intermittently impact all of campus.

Following this change, additional changes will impact four other buildings during the semester – Toomey Hall, McNutt Hall, the Computer Science Building and Emerson Hall. More detailed communication with confirmed timing and specific instructions will be shared as the dates approach.

If you have any questions or experience issues after the upgrade, please contact the S&T IT Help Desk at 573-341-4357 or start an online chat. The Help Desk will coordinate directly with the team performing the upgrade to address urgent issues.
