The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) student design team, in partnership with the Student Union Board (SUB), will host an all-day cardiac screening event 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, in the Innovation Lab Forum.

The first 1,000 students will receive a free electrocardiogram (ECG)—a noninvasive test that maps the heart’s electrical activity to detect potentially dangerous cardiac arrhythmias. Early detection is key, as arrhythmias can cause sudden cardiac arrest, a leading cause of death in people ages 19 to 24.

ECGs will be read by board-certified cardiologists through the Ruth Lee Miller Heart Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to cardiovascular research.

Volunteers are needed. Students can sign up for one or more shifts at this link. RSO leaders are encouraged to coordinate group volunteer efforts.
