In 2023, S&T’s information technology team began focusing efforts on and communicating to employees about the transition to the Windows 11 operating system so campus computers comply with UM System information security policies and guidelines. This fall Microsoft will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system.

An image that represents 86 percent of computers on campus have been transitioned to Windows 11 and 14 percent still have Windows 10.

Progress

As of Friday, Jan. 24, IT has updated or replaced computers to achieve 86% conversion to Windows 11.

Who is affected?

All users with campus-managed computers running Windows 10.

What are the next steps?

In an effort to remove the majority of the remaining Windows 10 computers by early April, IT has arranged another bulk buy opportunity with Dell to purchase computers at a discount on top of our normal educational discount. Affected users will be emailed a list of their Windows 10 computers. There will be a link to order computers from this bulk buy and to request an IT pickup of any computer that is no longer needed. The IT team will take orders for the bulk buy until Friday, Feb. 21.
