What is your role at S&T?
I am a degree completion advisor in the registrar’s office.
What inspired you to join Staff Council?
I appreciated the events the council put on for staff and wanted a chance to give back as part of the team. Also, my boss suggested that I would be a good fit for the council and decided to nominate me.
What is your role on Staff Council, and what responsibilities does it involve?
I serve on the Advocacy Committee. Our goal is to get feedback from the campus community and create initiatives to put change or benefits into motion. So far, we have awarded staff scholarships and voted on measures to relieve the tax burden on staff who exercise the benefit of using tuition assistance through payroll. Another initiative was to get another holiday in the middle of the spring semester and/or a floating holiday. We are getting ready to start the matrix of deciding staff appreciation awards and also working with the general counsel on duties as assigned.
What advice would you give someone just starting at S&T?
Get to know your campus and the vast resources of staff, faculty, students and administrators. Get involved — there are so many events, games, trainings and organizations led by staff and students to choose from. Force yourself to meet someone new every week. That will keep you busy for the next five years.
What’s one thing you absolutely must have at your desk and why?
Something fun, whether it be a collection of pens, S&T stuff, a stress ball, something mechanical, a fidget spinner or Post-its that make me laugh.
What’s something about you that most people don’t know, whether it’s unique, unexpected or just a little quirky?
I have an online shopping addiction. I have hordes of seasonal decorations.
Bonus question: What’s your favorite aspect of St. Pat’s, or do you have a fun St. Pat’s memory to share?
Wearing green is definitely part of it! I’ve attended St. Pat’s parades, pub crawls, had some delicious Shepherd’s pie and even seen the river dyed green. But what the BEST St. Pat’s Ever does for this campus is mind-blowing. I’ve never experienced anything like how this campus embraces the event. And, by the way, I hate snakes!
