Introducing ‘Batiacasphaera obohikuenobeae’: A species named to honor S&T professor

In recognition of her work in marine palynology, researchers discovered and named an ancient microscopic fossil species from the Arctic Ocean after Dr. Francisca Oboh-Ikuenobe, a professor of earth sciences and engineering.

Paleontology is the study of ancient life, primarily through fossils, but Oboh-Ikuenobe studies its sub-discipline, palynology, which focuses on tiny organic-walled microfossils like pollen, spores and dinoflagellate cysts.
