The University of Missouri System is implementing changes to Grammarly usage, effective Thursday, Jan. 9, due to privacy and security concerns.

Free and premium versions of Grammarly will no longer be available for use by employees and student employees. Instead, UM System will offer Grammarly for Education, an approved version that ensures data protection.

Starting Monday, Dec. 16, employees and student employees can request Grammarly for Education through the Missouri S&T IT Help Desk.

Employees currently using Grammarly with a campus domain email (@mst.edu) should change it by Jan. 9 to their @umsystem.edu email to prevent data loss. Get instructions to change your email.

Students who are not employees should update their Grammarly login to a personal email address by Jan. 9. They can disable Grammarly’s generative AI features in account settings only use Grammarly with public data when using a personal email address.

This change aims to protect sensitive information, including student data, health information and personally identifiable information from potential collection by Grammarly’s AI tools.
