The University of Missouri Board of Curators voted unanimously Wednesday, Nov. 20, to approve construction of a new facility for scientific research and two new academic programs at Missouri S&T.
Missouri S&T’s largest capital project to date at $130 million, the Bioplex will support advanced research and education in life sciences, biomedicine and biomedical engineering and will be funded by private gifts. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025, and it is expected to be completed by June 2028.
“This new facility will showcase the university’s investment into advanced research facilities fitting of a Carnegie Level 1 research institution,” says Chancellor Mo Dehghani. “The Bioplex will create an unmistakable impression of these critical programs for prospective students, researchers, industry partners and campus visitors. It will be a nexus for collaboration among researchers from multiple fields.”
The curators approved S&T’s plans for a master’s degree in innovation and economics (MEI) and a Ph.D. in applied psychology. Both programs must be approved by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education. Pending approval, the university aims to admit MEI master’s and Ph.D. applied psychology students starting in fall 2025.
In honor of Gary Havener, a Missouri S&T alumnus and longtime donor, the curators recognized the official name of S&T’s arrival district as the Havener Arrival Complex.
The curators also approved fiscal year 2026 student housing and dining rates for all University of Missouri System campuses. The new rates will go into effect in the 2025 summer session.
