September is National Recovery Month, with the goal to raise awareness that hope and healing from mental health and substance use are real and possible. Student Well-Being has “Recovery is Possible” T-shirts and sweatshirts available for those on campus who complete the Collegiate Recovery Ally Training at mopiptraining.org/macro.html.
Partners in Prevention designed the Collegiate Recover Ally Training to help faculty, staff and students support individuals in recovery from substance use disorders.
The training covers:
Substance use disorders and recovery.
Myths and stigmas about substance use disorders.
Using person-first, recovery-friendly language.
How to support someone seeking, or already in, recovery.
The training takes about 30 minutes and is intended to be completed in one session.
If you complete the Collegiate Recovery Ally Training, Student Well-Being will provide you with a “Recovery is Possible” t-shirt and/or a sweatshirt while supplies last. To receive your shirt and/or sweatshirt, email Stephanie Murray-Miller, Manager of Health Promotion and Prevention in Student Well-Being, at smurray-miller@mst.edu, along with your certificate of completion and shirt/sweatshirt size. You will pick these up in 201 Norwood Hall.
Student well-being offers a variety of resources for students including Miners 4 Recovery. This support group helps students who want to explore their behaviors, reflect on ideas for change, avoid negative consequences related to drugs and alcohol, and experience the support of a safe group. This is not an abstinence-only group, and it is led by a counselor. To join, visit the student well-being website or contact Student Well-Being at wellbeing@mst.edu or 573-341-4211.
