In the spirit of Earth Day, Missouri S&T’s Muslim Students Association (MSA) and Bangladeshi Student Association (BSA) joined forces to host an event titled ‘Empowering Earth: Researching Pathways to a Greener Tomorrow’ in the Havener Center on Monday afternoon, April 22.
People presented their research initiatives aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and building a sustainable future. Through the presentations, attendees highlighted how their efforts aligned with the ethos of Earth Day, emphasizing the collective impact of research in shaping a greener tomorrow for generations to come. During the event, MSA and BSA emphasized the importance of research in empowering Earth, encouraging attendees to explore innovative solutions to existing challenges. Abdullah Al Moinee, president of the associations, presented how electrification potentially paves the greener pathways for adsorptive separation processes.
At a Poe-Tree event hosted by Dr. Agnes Vojta at the Curtis Laws Wilson Library, members of the two organizations celebrated National Poetry Month and Earth Day. Attendees shared poetry with themes of Earth Day, environment, energy and eternity.
In a symbolic gesture of their dedication to environmental preservation, BSA presented a plant to the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Rupack Ranjan Halder, a Ph.D. student in chemical engineering and member of BSA, presented library representatives Colby Rhine and Kaitlyn Erhart, with the plant, adorned with the flag of Bangladesh to serve as a reminder of the promise of Earth Day and the ongoing commitment to nurturing and protecting the planet. In a heartfelt gesture, Erhart expressed their happiness, gratitude, and commitment to the plant’s care, promising to name and water it regularly symbolizing their dedication to the sustainable values of Earth Day.
As the day came to a close, attendees departed with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration. Through their collective efforts, MSA and BSA demonstrated their unwavering dedication to creating a sustainable future with collective efforts, leaving a lasting impact on the Missouri S&T community and beyond.
