Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering, has been elected vice president of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards. He began his position in October.
As vice president, Oerther will serve on the executive committee and step into the role of president as necessary. He became involved with the organization while he was a Trustee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, which is a founding member of the council.
The Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards was founded in 1990 to enhance the credibility of certification programs. Through voluntary standards, the council accredits approximately 60 certifications, which recognize the specialty practice of more than 20,000 individuals. Areas recognized by the council include civil engineering, environmental engineering, forensic engineering, environmental professionals, health physicists and wetland scientists.
