Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering, has been appointed professor of nursing by courtesy at Duquesne University, a private Catholic research institution located in Pittsburgh.
In 2014, Duquesne University began the first dual program in which students can earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing as well as a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering over five years.
In 2022, Oerther co-authored a paper titled “The nurse+engineer as the prototype V-shaped professional,” in Nursing Outlook with Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean of nursing and vice provost for research at Duquesne.
Later this month, Oerther will receive the Edith Moore Copeland Founder’s Award for Excellence in Creativity and Innovation from Sigma Theta Tau the International Honor Society of Nursing at their biennial international meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
