Updates for the S&T community
The arts, languages and philosophy department invites the Spanish-speaking community at S&T to participate in the next “El Conversatorio” event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, via Zoom.
Dr. Alberto Jiménez Valverde, associate professor in the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares in Spain, will present a talk titled “Where are you going with your eight legs? Studying Spiders’ Spatial Distribution.”
Alberto Jiménez Valverde holds a Ph.D. in biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His dissertation, developed at the Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid, examines spiders’ patterns of distribution at different spatial scales. He specializes in developing mathematical models to predict geographic ranges of species. He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas de España. He was one of the most cited Spanish scientists worldwide in 2015-2016.
El Conversatorio is a one-hour informal virtual talk in which guest speakers from different areas of the Spanish-speaking world share their thoughts on current events and issues. After a 15-20 minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer session, participants can join fun activities using breakout rooms in Zoom and practice their Spanish.
The fall 2020 series of El Conversatorio will be held every three weeks via Zoom. All meetings begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.
