Dr. V. Prakash Reddy, professor of chemistry at S&T, has authored a new, 358-page book covering modern synthetic methodologies and applications of organofluorine compounds. It is published by Elsevier.
Reddy’s book, Organofluorine Chemistry: Synthesis and Applications, is for use by academic researchers and industrial scientists working in interdisciplinary areas such as chemical-, biochemical-, and biomedical engineering, materials science and medicinal chemistry. It is also for use in advanced-level graduate and senior undergraduate courses in organofluorine chemistry.
The book illustrates chemical, biochemical, pharmaceutical and materials applications of fluorine-containing compounds, including synthesis and applications of fluorinated nanoscopic materials for drug delivery and catalysis, together with the state-of-the-art green chemistry applications. Fluorinated compounds are indispensable for the drug design and toward improving the pharmacokinetics of pharmaceuticals.
This book gives a comprehensive coverage of the fluorine-containing modern therapeutics, including antimalarials, antivirals, antidiabetics, and drugs that would help in reversing the progression of the Alzheimer’s disease and that would lower cholesterol levels. Recent advances in the applications of organofluorine compounds in the design of solar cells, fluoropolymers and F-MRI imaging agents are also discussed in this book. It follows Reddy’s first book on the topic, which is titled “Organoflourine Compounds in Biology and Medicine,” published in 2015 by Elsevier.
Reddy joined Missouri S&T in 2000. He holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, and a master of philosophy degree from the University of Hyderabad in India. He received the Golden Key National Honor Society award for teaching excellence at Case Western Reserve University and was a NASA Faculty Fellow at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
