Dr. Kathleen Sheppard, associate professor of history and political science, will present a public lecture titled “Women on the Nile in the ‘Golden Age’ of Travel” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Linda Hall Library at 5109 Cherry St. in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sheppard’s work focuses on the history of Egyptology, and women in the field. In her talk, Shepard will focus on how the experiences of Western women traveling to Egypt in the mid-19th century differed from experiences of their male counterparts.
The event is free and open to the public; however, e-tickets are required. A live broadcast from the Linda Hall Library’s Facebook page will also be available or via livestream.com.
The Linda Hall Library is an independent research library devoted to science, engineering and technology whose mission is to be a guardian of the collective intellectual heritage of these disciplines, a destination for advanced research and scholarship, and a center for public education in the sciences.
