Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering, has been appointed a trustee of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) in the United Kingdom. He will serve a three-year term starting in January.
Founded in 1883, the CIEH provides information, evidence and policy advice to local and national government, environmental and public health practitioners in the public and private sectors. With offices in London, Wales and Northern Ireland, the CIEH operates globally to support its more than 8,000 members. CIEH governance includes a board of trustees with six individuals elected from the CIEH membership, six appointed individuals and a president. The CEO serves as an ex officio board member.
In 2018, Oerther was elected a fellow of CIEH, and he received the Best Innovative Environmental Health Solution Award for his work to eliminate childhood stunting in Guatemala. Since 2019, he has served as an appointed trustee of the CIEH Welfare Fund, which helps CIEH members and their dependents in times of need.
