Dr. Mary Reidmeyer, teaching professor emeritus of ceramic engineering, has received the Greaves-Walker Lifetime Service Award from the American Ceramic Society. She was presented the award yesterday at the organization’s 121st annual meeting at Materials Science & Technology 2019 in Portland, Oregon.
This award honors a founding member and the first president of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers (NICE) – currently, the newly formed Education and Professional Development Council (EPDC). Reidmeyer received the award for outstanding service to the ceramic engineering profession and exemplifing the aims, ideals and purpose of EPDC.
Reidmeyer earned bachelor of science, master of science and Ph.D. degrees in ceramic engineering from Missouri S&T in 1978, 1984 and 1989, respectively. She organized and oversaw S&T’s Hot Glass Shop. Her research focused on processing, product development, glasses, heat- and corrosion-resistant coatings, deposition methods, high-temperature lubricants, and consumables for the metal casting industry. In 2017, Reidmeyer received S&T’s inaugural Dr. Elizabeth Cummins Women’s Advocate Award.
