Dr. Clair Kueny, assistant professor of psychology, will speak about organizational teams during a psychology colloquium 1-1:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in Room 318 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Her presentation is named “Responding to Team-Member Initiative: Interpersonal Outcomes of Proactive Behavior.”
She will present theory on interpersonal outcomes of employee discretionary behaviors and findings from two studies looking at interpersonal outcomes of proactive behavior.
Kueny’s research finds that organizations increasingly expect employees to take initiative at work, such as engage in proactive behavior, while simultaneously relying on teams to complete tasks. However, proactive behavior can be a risky behavior with the potential to affect others within the workplace. Thus, before encouraging proactive behavior within teams, it is important to understand how others on the team react to and interpret such behaviors, as well as the implications of how and by whom these behaviors are enacted.
