The American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation selected Dr. David Westenberg, associate professor and interim chair of biological sciences, to serve as a “Humboldtian on Campus.” Westenberg was one of approximately 200 U.S. Alexander von Humboldt alumni invited to participate in the U.S. Humboldt Colloquium, held March 2-4 in Washington, D.C. The topic of the colloquium was “Global Research in the 21st Century: Perspectives of the U.S. Humboldt Network.”
Westenberg served as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow from 1991 to 1993 and again in 2005. The organization promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars worldwide and from Germany. It is named in honor of Alexander von Humboldt, a nature researcher, explorer, influential scientist and patron born in Berlin in the 1700s.
