Celebrate Active Learning Day

The educational technology (EdTech) staff invites Missouri S&T faculty to show the unique ways you use active learning methods in your classroom. Active Learning Day will be observed Monday, Oct. 23. It is a nationwide movement to improve science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. McManus among speakers commemorating Antietam cemetery anniversary

Dr. John McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history, was a featured speaker in September for the National Cemetery Anniversary Speaker Series in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Antietam National Cemetery. He presented “The Fallen American Soldiers of World War II: Their World of Combat” on Sept. 9 at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. His presentation was broadcast on C-SPAN. American Courage, American Carnage, a book written by Dr. John McManus, is the basis for Burden of Command, a tactical wartime video game set for release in 2018. McManus is a Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history and political science.

Libre’s video channel reaches students, over 130 countries

Dr. Nick Libre, assistant professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, created an innovative way of teaching his Mechanics of Materials class. Following an injury that limited his mobility, he decided to record his lectures and upload the videos to YouTube so he could still reach his students without being in class. His students encouraged him to continue to produce them after he returned to the classroom. To date, Libre’s YouTube channel has reached over 130 countries and nearly 20,000 visitors. University Advancement earns 11 CASE awards

The University Advancement division earned 11 awards out of over 400 submissions during the CASE District VI conference, held Jan. 24-26 in Kansas City, Missouri. The division received four gold awards, two silver awards and five bronze awards for projects ranging from graphic design and news writing to video and photography.
