Toomey Hall fire this morning

At 3:16 a.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 7), the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue responded to a fire alarm in Toomey Hall. Firefighters determined that a small fire (about the size of a desk) had occurred as part of an experiment in a research lab on the second floor. The sprinkler system extinguished the fire, and fire damage was limited to a desktop and equipment within the experiment. While there was no fire damage to Toomey Hall, there was limited water damage due to sprinkler activation.

Sprinkler system tests underway

The Missouri S&T physical facilities staff will conduct flow tests on sprinkler systems in several buildings today (Monday, Feb. 12) and tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 13). You may notice crews in the following buildings: Bertelsmeyer Hall, Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall, Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Emerson Hall, Straumanis-James Hall and the Technology Development Center.
