Engineering certification board adopts AI and ethics policies

The Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards adopted a formal policy on artificial intelligence, a code of conduct and a statement on ethics at its March 10 meeting in New Orleans. Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering at Missouri S&T, served as president of the organization for the past two years and led consensus efforts for the policies.

Oerther appointed to United Nations committee

Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, was appointed as a member of the credentialed U.S. delegation to the United Nations Committee on World Food Security in Rome, Italy, in October. As a foreign affairs officer, this was Oerther’s fourth appointment to represent the U.S. Department of State as part of an inter-agency governmental delegation to a major international conference.

Oerther, the John A. and Susan Mathes Chair of Environmental Engineering and director of S&T’s Environmental Research Center, as one of five honorary members inducted at the organization’s convention held Oct. 28-Nov. 2 in Dallas.
