Observatory event rescheduled, planned tonight

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 6 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Nov. 13), for viewing the moon. The event is open to the public and will be held 6-8 p.m.

Partial power outage planned Nov. 14 at McNutt Hall

Crews will work on electrical panels for the installation of an induction furnace in the foundry area of McNutt Hall, causing a partial power outage in the building 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. Lighting will not be affected but the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in some parts of the building will be affected. During this outage, cooling and heating will not be available in the following rooms of McNutt Hall:

  • Ground floor: Rooms 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23, 28, 30, 34, 35, 36, 38, 42, 44, 43, 46, 53
  • First floor: Rooms 104, 106, 108, 110, 112, 113, 114, 115, 117 and 135
  • Second floor: Rooms 202 and 215

Join student diversity initiatives for a discussion led by Dr. Justin Pope, assistant professor of history and political science, 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Diversity House, located at 605 W. 11th St. Pope’s presentation, titled “Can I Call You Native? An Exploration of the Terms ‘Native American’ and ‘American Indian,’ ”will explore the words “Native American” and “American Indian,” both racial terms contested by indigenous people in the United States. Dinner will be provided.
