The lecture, titled “Aspects of Soil-Structure Interaction,” will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Hall. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Finn will also present a keynote address as part of the 2019 GeoMO Conference hosted by Missouri S&T, to be held Friday, May 10, at the Millennium Student Center-UMSL-SGA Chambers. The theme for the 2019 GeoMo conference, “Advancements in Seismic Geotechnical Engineering” will be addressed by distinguished members in the field; Dr. Finn will be joined by Dr. Ahmed Elgamal, Dr. Ronaldo Luna, Dr. Brent Rosenblad, and Dr. Guney Olgun. Mitchell, a National Academy of Engineering member and University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech, will present the Shamsher and Sally Prakash Distinguished Lecture at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in Room 121 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Mitchell’s talk is titled “Geotechical surprises – or are they?” He will highlight three illustrative case histories and discuss how they were reviewed and if what went wrong could have been anticipated.
Read More »Chuang Lin, a Ph.D. student in geotechnical engineering, received a $5,000 Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) Fellowship grant for his research proposal. His project is titled “Analyzation of Wicking Fabrics Used to Remove Capillary Water in Road Embankments.” Lin was one of 11 students worldwide selected for the 2017-18 fellowship.
