Presentation for academic advisors planned Feb. 5
Dr. Patti J. Fleck, director of counseling services, will present “Understanding and Engaging Today’s Students” noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center. The event is part of a series of advising development sessions sponsored by the undergraduate advising office.

Counseling services offers various student groups to help students cope with school demands, feel better faster and stay in school happier. Several groups will launch next week, including groups focused on safety, ADHD support and Miners 4 Recovery. Counseling services will soon offer groups focused on mood management, test anxiety and social confidence. Counseling Services will present a University of Missouri System-licensed program, RESPOND, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, St. Pat’s A Ballroom of the Havener Center. There is no cost to attend. RESPOND was designed to train students, faculty and staff on how to recognize and provide initial assistance to people with mental health concerns.

Our campus has experienced multiple losses and many within our S&T community continue to mourn. While grief is a personal and individual experience, common reactions include shock, disbelief, sadness, numbness, anger, guilt and confusion. Living with Loss offers a safe space to share experiences, give and receive support, learn about the process of grieving and explore coping strategies. Living with Loss sessions are free and confidential. Dr. Patti J. Fleck, director of counseling services, will facilitate a session at 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13. Beginning today (Monday, Nov. 27), counseling services will hold on-campus interviews for an open counselor position. Faculty and staff are invited to attend the candidates’ presentations, which will be held:
- 2:45-3:30 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 27) in Room 305 Norwood Hall
- 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the Silver and Gold Room of the Havener Center
