Donate to Rolla recovery efforts

The civil, architectural and environmental engineering department is hosting a donation drive for Rolla community members who were directly affected by the tornado on Friday, March 14. Donations can be dropped off at the advising center in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall or in the Havener Center 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Chen’s robotic bridge inspection system wins ASCE’s 2025 Pankow Award

Dr. Genda Chen, the Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering and director of the Center for Intelligent Infrastructure and the INSPIRE University Transportation Center, has developed a robotic system to make bridge inspections faster, more comprehensive and safer. His invention, called the Bridge Inspection Robot Deployment System, or BIRDS, has been selected for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2025 Charles Pankow Award for Innovation.

Burken leads Engineer’s Day discussion at Missouri Capitol

Dr. Joel Burken, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and Mathes Endowed Chair in civil, architectural and environmental engineering, gave opening remarks and led a panel discussion with freshmen state senators to kick off Engineer’s Day at the Missouri Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The event is coordinated by the Missouri chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Public Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers and Missouri Society of Professional Engineers.

Students build with food donations in CANstruction competition

Participating in S&T’s Staff Council food and toy drive, the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department collected more than 4,500 food items, beating the previous department record of 3,100 items. Students entered the Architectural Engineering Institute’s national CANstruction student competition building three models completely out of the donated food items – a Christmas tree, Santa’s sleigh and a three-car train.
