50 years already? Celebrate with Cohen and Long on Sept. 12

On Sept. 1, 1968, Dr. Gerald Cohen, professor of Russian and German, and Dr. Gary Long, professor of chemistry, began teaching at Missouri S&T. The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business will host a reception to honor them for 50 years of service 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the second floor gallery of Curtis Laws Wilson Library. A brief program will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Retirement reception planned for Yinfa Ma

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business, along with S&T’s chemistry department, will host a retirement reception for Dr. Yinfa Ma 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in St. Pat’s Ballroom B of the Havener Center. Ma is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of chemistry and associate dean for research and external relations in the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. He joined the S&T chemistry faculty in 2000.

Switzer named Electrochemical Society fellow

Researchers publish on new method to boost electron mobility, conductivity

Two Missouri S&T chemistry researchers are part of an international team that has designed a new metal-organic framework that exhibits dramatic improvements in electron mobility, which could lead to new applications for fuels cells, batteries and other technologies. Glaser named chair of chemistry

Dr. Rainer Glaser, professor of chemistry at the University of Missouri-Columbia, has been named chair of chemistry at Missouri S&T. His appointment begins Aug. 1. Glaser takes over from Dr. Philip Whitefield, professor of chemistry, who has served as chair since Sept. 1, 2005. Whitefield will continue to serve S&T as a chemistry faculty member and as director of the Center for Research in Energy and Environment.
