In conjunction with the St. Pat’s Board, Missouri S&T’s Staff Council is selling St. Pat’s sweatshirts with a staff design added on the back of the shirts. The deadline for the orders is Wednesday, March 7. If you previously bought a shirt, you can get the staff design added to the back for $2. “Let’s Talk” is a program that provides easy access to informal confidential conversations with clinicians from counseling services. Clinicians hold walk-in hours at sites around campus. Missouri S&T’s student commencement speaker program has been expanded so that all graduating students can apply for the opportunity to speak at their commencement ceremony on May 12. Students who will be receiving their Ph.D., master’s degree or bachelor’s degree at the May ceremony may apply. The application deadline for all students is 4 p.m. today (Monday, March 5). Read More »Strategic plan open forums set for March 5
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend an open forum on Missouri S&T’s strategic plan and provide feedback on a revised draft plan presented by Missouri S&T’s Strategic Plan Committee. The open forums will be held:
- 9 a.m. Monday, March 5, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center
- 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center
Tornado drill planned March 6; evaluate your plan
The National Weather Service will test their severe weather alert and sirens during a statewide tornado drill at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, as part of Missouri’s Severe Weather Awareness Week. University Police recommends using this time to consider what you would do and where you would go in the case of an actual tornado warning.
During an actual tornado:
A tornado warning means that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. The Rolla Police Department will activate the city’s outdoor sirens. When warning sirens sound:
- Seek shelter, preferably in a designated area. Move to an interior hallway, under a stairwell or a room with no windows.
- Stay away from outside walls, exterior doors and glass windows or partitions. Do not open windows.
- Take cover under heavy furniture. Cover your head.
- Check local radio and television stations concerning the tornado warning.
- There is no all-clear message sounded through the siren system. However, Missouri S&T does send out all-clear messages through its mass notification system.

Missouri S&T’s concert bands will present a performing arts concert at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday, March 1) at Leach Theatre. The concert will feature performances by S&T’s brass choir, woodwind trio and video game music ensemble.

Dr. Tony Frankino will present a biological sciences lecture, “Research-based Learning in the Galapagos” at noon Tuesday, March 6, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Frankino is an associate chair and associate professor in biology and biochemistry at the University of Houston.

Chirag Parik, deputy director for the Office of Counterproliferation at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), will present a lecture at 3-4:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. His talk is titled “U.S. National Security Space: Seizing New Opportunities and Facing New Challenges.”
