Flags to fly at half-staff May 15

In accordance with Missouri State Statute 9.120, all flags at state and government offices will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, May 15, to commemorate the sacrifices of the federal, state, county and municipal peace officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

Funeral services set for Helen White

Helen White of Edgar Springs died May 8. She was 89. White worked in accounting at Missouri S&T for several years and retired in 1990. Visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. tonight (Thursday, May 10) at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the same location, followed by interment in the Roseberry Cemetery in rural Phelps County.

New sewer line going in on 11th Street

Weather permitting, work to install a new sewer line for S&T’s student diversity initiatives building will begin Monday, May 14. The house is located at 605 W. 11th Street. During the work next week, part of the street will be blocked off and the driveway to the house will be torn up. There will be a period during the week in which the restrooms will be unavailable in the house; employees can use the restrooms in Bertelsmeyer Hall instead during this time. Get your tickets for military barbecue

The Phelps for the Fort committee, which includes Missouri S&T and the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce, will host an Association of the United States Army (AUSA) barbecue 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Veterans Memorial Park in Rolla. The event is open to the campus community and reinforces the combined community and military strength of our region.

The parking lot across from Hasselmann Alumni House, Area A, Lot 4, will be closed Tuesday, May 15, and Wednesday, May 16, for a private event. Courses on sustainability in Latin America offered this summer

Two new courses, both called “Sustainability as Trope and Theme in Latin America” will be offered online during the second four weeks of the 2018 summer semester. The class is asynchronous (students complete their work on their own time). No textbook is required; students will use a selection of publications and online resources.
