R.A.D. training for women

The Centre, located at 1200 Holloway St. in Rolla, is offering rape, aggression, defense (R.A.D.) training for women ages 12 and older. Classes will be 3-5 p.m. Saturdays from April 12 to May 17 in Meeting Room B. The course is $25 and is taught by Lt. Letha Young of the Missouri S&T police department. Classes will teach empowerment, confidence and the power of voice. A heavy emphasis on physical defense is incorporated into the classes. Staff Council meeting March 13

The next Staff Council meeting is 9-11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Silver and Gold Room of the Havener Center. The group will discuss whether S&T should become a smoke-free campus. Comments may be submitted to the Staff Council Advocacy Committee at staffco-advocacy-grp@mst.edu. Lonna Sowers, member of the Rolla Chamber of Commerce, will join the group to talk about the city of Rolla’s perspective. Staff Council encourages staff, faculty and students who are interested in the discussion to attend.

Vote Steve Watkins for ASEE position

Dr. Steve E. Watkins, professor of electrical and computer engineering at S&T, is a candidate for Zone III chair-elect with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). If elected, Watkins would serve as chair-elect and then chair for Zone III, which includes the central portions of the U.S. and Canada. Ballots are included in the March issue of the ASEE’s PRISM magazine and must be cast by Monday, March 31. Information about his candidacy and other ASEE candidates is included in the November 2013 issue of PRISM and online at the ASEE website.
