Register for infrastructure conference
The 2014 Missouri S&T/MoDOT Transportation Infrastructure Conference will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Havener Center. Six professional development hours (PDHs) will be offered this year for attending. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 19. See the conference’s website for more information and to register.

Starting Monday, Aug. 11, the faculty and staff eConnection will return to its regular schedule of Monday and Thursday morning publication. Submission deadlines are 3 p.m. the day before they are published. The eConnection will maintain this schedule until after the end of the semester. Continue to submit your campus news to the eConnection, student-based announcements to the student eConnection and remember to submit campus events to the campus calendar.

Showcase your research via demonstration or poster from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the University of Missouri Technology Park at Fort Leonard Wood. The showcase, for the Army Research Lab’s new director, will display research that has developed military solutions but lacks the resources to continue. There is no cost to display your research, but advanced notice is appreciated. RSVP to Steve Tupper, or call 341-6756.

The final Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) session for 2014 will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the Havener Center. Incoming students will learn about student life, meet with their advisors, take the math placement exam and register for fall classes. After attending PRO, new students will participate in Opening Week activities to prepare for the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 25. Transfer transition will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. New transfer students will have the opportunity to participate in a design project and competition. Students will meet faculty and staff in their departments and learn about campus life. Welcome the new transfer students when they visit your office. The day concludes with a recognition dinner for our new students. New student programs is pleased to announce that Union Pacific will once again sponsor the 2014 Opening Week’s Project X. Union Pacific will have representatives on campus during Opening Week to assist our new students with programs and judging their projects. 1,300 new students will attend Opening Week, which starts Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Spirit of Change is a movement of students inspiring students. Whether it is a free cup of coffee or an umbrella in the rain, the Blue Key Honors Society inspires other students by performing random acts of kindness throughout the semester. Fundraising takes place for the Spirit of Change during Opening Week and the first week of school.
