Parking Area J, Lot 45 will be closed between Monday, July 27, and Friday, Aug. 14, for the installation of utility equipment. Permit holders are asked to park in Area H, Lot 37 during the construction.

Fulbright scholarship opportunity for Ph.D. students

If you know of a candidate for a Ph.D. program at Missouri S&T who is interested in doing research in the United Kingdom, let that student know that the University of Roehampton has a Fulbright Scholar Award currently open for applications from U.S. citizens. It is available in support of research or teaching and lecturing in any subject in a Roehampton research department. The deadline for applications is Monday, Aug. 3.

Wunsch to present keynote in China

Dr. Donald Wunsch, the Mary K. Finley Missouri Distinguished Professor of Computer Engineering and director of the Applied Computational Intelligence Laboratory at Missouri S&T, will present the opening keynote address at the International Conference on Intelligent Computing on Friday, Aug. 21, in Fuzhou, China. His speech is titled “Validation measures in clustering.”

Register to be part of the Homecoming parade

This fall, the Student Union Board is hosting a Homecoming parade in downtown Rolla and would like as many organizations to participate as possible. The parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, the morning of the Homecoming football game. Homecoming, also known as MinerFest this year, will have a fall festival theme. The parade will follow this theme and organizations and departments can use a float, motorized unit, walkers and more.

Lyric Live Theater to perform plays by Story

The Lyric Live Theater will perform the comedy play “Honeymoon on Mars” by Dr. Greg Story, an associate professor of physics. The play tells the story of the first astronauts sent to colonize Mars. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. July 24, 25 and 31 and Aug. 1. Shows are free and open to the public, but donations appreciated for the performances. The theater is located at 117 1st Street in Newburg, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements for Brian W. Smith

Brian W. Smith, a mechanical trades specialist-refrigeration in student affairs auxiliary services at Missouri S&T, died Sunday, July 19. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Null and Son Funeral Home, 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at the same location. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Elsie Jane Jett died Sunday, July 19. Mrs. Jett is the mother of Roger Jett, who works part time for human resources, equity and inclusion after retiring from S&T in 2013. Visitation will be held from 8:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Goettenstroeter Chapel in Owensville, Missouri. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Burchard Cemetery.

Support Staff Council and dine on pizza

Missouri S&T’s Staff Council will act as servers at Pizza Inn in Rolla 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 27, to raise money for future Staff Days. Pizza Inn, located at 1051 Kingshighway, will donate 15 percent of proceeds during the time window and all tips to Staff Council members.
