The Missouri S&T Solar House Team’s Nest Home is on display in Irvine, California, as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. The home is also up for the People’s Choice Awards. You can help the team by voting for the Nest Home to win the People’s Choice Award. The team finished the weekend in first place overall in the competition. Check the complete standings here.

Annual enrollment reminder

Active benefit-eligible faculty or staff members should complete annual enrollment in myHR between Monday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 30. This year, you can enjoy a $50 discount on your monthly insurance premiums if you attest to being tobacco free or enroll in a tobacco cessation program. If you do not complete annual enrollment by the deadline, you will default into the Healthy Savings Plan on an after-tax basis, and you will not receive the tobacco-free premium discount.

MinerFest Homecoming events

This year’s Homecoming theme is MinerFest. Participate in the numerous events, including those hosted by the Student Union Board. Events begin Monday, Oct. 19, and include the kickoff barbecue on Monday, Oct. 19, the Fall Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 21, the s’mores bonfire on Friday, Oct. 23, and the MinerFest parade on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines (LEAD) program provides free walk-in tutoring and faculty-led learning centers in over 60 courses this semester — including all the introductory courses in math, chemistry, physics and computer science, and full operation of several other learning centers. Funeral arrangements for Dr. John Best

Dr. John Best, former professor of civil engineering at Missouri S&T, died Tuesday, Oct. 6. Visitation will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, with a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. at James and Gahr Mortuary, 1651 E. Highway 72 in Rolla. Memorial contributions are suggested to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Visit the portrait exhibit in the library

Stop by the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library to view a portrait exhibit by Marie-Hélène Le Ny celebrating women in science and engineering. The exhibit, titled Infinités plurielles, will be on display until Tuesday, Oct. 27. Her work was commissioned by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
