Annual enrollment for 2016 began today, Monday, Oct. 19, and runs through Friday, Oct. 30. There are some significant changes to plan options that will take effect Jan. 1, 2016. An HR benefit advocate will be on campus to offer 30-minute one-on-one consultations to provide information and answer questions about coverage choices. Appointments are available on Monday, Oct. 19; Wednesday, Oct. 21; Monday, Oct. 26; Wednesday, Oct. 28; and Thursday, Oct. 29. What do Angelina Jolie, Jon Hamm, J.K. Rowling, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Princess Diana all have in common? If you guessed they have all suffered depression, you’re correct. Countless people struggle with depression at some point in life. Counseling, disability support and student wellness can help to determine if you, too, suffer from depression during a free screening 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Havener Center atrium. The event is sponsored by counseling, disability support and student wellness, with the assistance of Joe’s PEERS. The event is open to all students, faculty and staff.

The United Way of South Central Missouri has been renamed the United Way of Phelps County to note the emphasis on local non-profit organizations that tackle health and human services issues affecting our community. The Missouri S&T campus has a long history of supporting the United Way. Your contribution will help the 15 non-profit organizations that are included this year and will be appreciated. Packets with more information will be distributed on Friday, Oct. 23.

You’re invited to the Miner Tank to watch as presenters sell their innovative ideas to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Presenters will have six minutes to pitch their proposal, which will be followed by four minutes of question-and-answer. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.

Dr. Wayne Huebner, chair of materials science and engineering, has announced that he will step down as chair of that department effective Jan. 1, 2016. Huebner plans to resume his previous role as professor of ceramic engineering within the department.

The Miner Alumni Association invites all faculty and staff to attend Homecoming 2015. On Friday, Oct. 23, you’re invited to the Miner Legends Luncheon in the Kinyon-Koeppel Grand Hall of Hasselmann Alumni House. Some of Missouri S&T’s most distinguished alumni will receive awards. The luncheon is noon-1:30 p.m. and tickets are $20. That evening, join the association for the Silver and Gold Gathering at 5 p.m. in Hasselmann Alumni House. Dinner buffet is 6-8 p.m. and tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under age 6.

You may not have noticed, because there have been no changes to campus services, but Educational Technology (EdTech) is now under the leadership of Dr. Anthony R. Petroy, assistant vice chancellor of global learning. This organizational alignment, which took effect Sept. 1, addresses a key action of Missouri S&T’s strategic plan – to expand and combine efforts in global and online learning.

The university’s Wellness Incentive starts Sunday, Nov. 1, for all eligible faculty and staff. From November 2015 through September 2016, you can earn up to $450 in your paycheck for taking steps to improve your health.
