Camping-themed retirement reception planned for Beth Lane

Cultivate financial wellness with help of university resources

The University of Missouri System offers financial resources for faculty and staff at http://umurl.us/finwell. Visit the page for educational information, tools and events designed to help you become and stay financially well. Some resources can earn participants points toward the 2017 wellness incentive. The next workshop on campus, “Budgeting for Wealth,” will be offered via telepresence noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in Room 201A of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. The event is free but registration is required.

Faculty members can rent regalia for commencement through the S&T Store. Please place your order by Friday, April 28, at the store, by calling 341-7522 or email at watsonl@mst.edu. Submit email orders to Linda Watson, retail associate, with the following information: last name, first name, phone number, height in feet and inches, weight in pounds, and school information (name and location). Payment is due at time of pickup. Orders submitted after the April 28 deadline will be subject to a late fee and an expedited shipping fee.

Learn about the sense of belonging at diversity lecture April 11

The campus community is invited to a free lecture by internationally recognized diversity scholar Dr. Terrell Strayhorn at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. Strayhorn will discuss results of research into the sense of belonging and why colleges and universities should care in a lecture titled “Inalienable Rights: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Belonging.” After the lecture, Strayhorn will conduct informal conversations with faculty, staff, students and alumni. Eating well workshops, recipe challenge coming up

The University of Missouri System supports your wellbeing through its Culture of Health program. One of the five principles of the culture is eating well. In April, you can attend free workshops about healthy eating and enter a recipe contest. Workshops will include:

  • “Navigating through the Dine on Campus webpage to make healthy food choices at Missouri S&T,” presented by Chartwells, 12:30-1:30p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in the Ozark Room of the Havener Center
  • “Carbohydrates,” presented by the University of Missouri Extension, noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center
  • “Food Labels” presented by the University of Missouri Extension, 11 a.m-noon Friday, April 14, in the Missouri Room of the Havener Center

Presentation from budget forum available online

Walt Branson, vice chancellor for finance and administration, and Dr. Robert Marley, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, discussed budget planning with the campus community and answered audience questions at an open forum on April 7. The slides from their presentation can be downloaded from S&T’s finance and administration website. A timeline for short-term planning for the FY2018 budget and long-term budget planning is included in the presentation. Missouri S&T continues to be committed to preserving the academic core of the university to the fullest extent possible, preserving revenue streams and moving forward strategically.
