Missouri S&T will soon begin a national search for the position of vice chancellor for research and dean of graduate studies. This position results from faculty suggestions to improve the integration of research and scholarship with graduate education. Combining the two offices and creating a vice chancellor-level position to oversee the efforts demonstrates the importance of both research and graduate studies at the senior leadership level.

Army ROTC will conduct cannon training noon-2 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 31) outside Harris Hall. Blanks will be used to conduct training. No live ammunition will be fired. Do not be alarmed if you hear loud reports and see white smoke in front of Harris Hall. A University Police officer will be on site during the training.

The campus community is invited to a reception for Walt Branson, vice chancellor for finance and operations, at 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, in St. Pat’s C of the Havener Center. Branson joined S&T in 2013. Stop by to thank him for his service and wish him well in his new role as vice president for finance and operations and chief business officer at Wright State University.

The student life department seeks four passionate Missouri S&T employees to advise an Alternative Spring Break experience. Faculty and staff advisors will work alongside a student trip leader to create a unique service experience for a diverse group of S&T students. Applications are due via OrgSync by Thursday, Aug. 31.

Learn about how academic service learning can affect your teaching and scholarship and benefit you and your students at Missouri S&T’s Service Learning Symposium 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in St. Pat’s C of the Havener Center. Seating is limited; RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 20, to Dedie Wilson, experiential learning specialist. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Students and faculty requiring alternate test times, make-up exams or other testing arrangements are asked to notify the Testing Center at least seven business days before the test date. The Testing Center does not accept same-day testing requests.
