Two faculty win grants to develop technology for commercialization
The College of Engineering and Computing launched a new sustainable energy technology seed grant program. The program’s purpose is to support the development, testing and construction of proof-of-concept technology for commercialization. Dr. Joseph Smith, Laufer Energy Chair and professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, and Dr. Pourya Shamsi, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, each received $30,000 grants through the program.

Tau Beta Pi initiates new members
The Missouri Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, held its fall initiation on Nov. 16. One faculty member and 21 students were initiated into the organization.

Dr. Jessica Cundiff, associate professor of psychological science, published a paper in BioScience about evidence-informed strategies that scientists and scientific societies can adopt to interrupt bias and promote equity.

Missouri S&T supporters recently doubled the impact of their donations thanks to a matching challenge for gifts of $1,000 or more issued by the Kummer Institute Foundation. The Kummer Day Giving Challenge began Oct. 9, the anniversary of the $300 million gift the university received from Fred and June Kummer in 2020, and closed Wednesday, Oct. 25.

A total of 58 current and former faculty of Missouri S&T are among the top researchers in their field as measured by their career research records, and 72 current or former Missouri S&T researchers were among the best in their fields in 2022, according to a recent analysis of standardized citation indicators of the Elsevier Data Repository published by Stanford University.
