Students of all majors in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business are invited to join Boeing representatives at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center for “Challenge Accepted: Problem Solving in the Real World.” Lunch will be served. To participate, students should register by Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Group counseling not only works, but it is often an effective way to bring about change. You may know a student who could benefit from group counseling — perhaps someone struggling with test anxiety, or social anxiety, or who struggles with depression or feeling overwhelmed by demands. Most problems are rooted in social relationships, and group counseling gets to the heart of our experience as humans. Missouri S&T’s confidential groups offer challenge and support. The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and Phelps for the Fort will host a tour of Fort Leonard Wood 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20. Lunch will be provided. The tour gives community members the opportunity to witness transformations at the fort that have positively impacted our community. On the hit TV show, “Shark Tank,” entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors. At Missouri S&T’s Miner Tank, faculty and staff will pitch proposals for innovative projects to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team. Miner Tank will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center.

The campus community is invited to an open forum to review progress and make changes to Missouri S&T’s campus master plan 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in St. Pat’s Ballroom A of the Havener Center. The campus master plan focuses on the physical campus environment (buildings, facilities and grounds. The 2017 Campus Master Plan Update will be presented to the Board of Curators during the April meeting.

Volunteers are needed for two robotics competitions for high school students that will be held on Missouri S&T’s campus:

• VEX Robotics: Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Student Recreation Center, register by contacting Linda Bright, event manager for recruitment marketing and Project Lead The Way
• FIRST Robotics: Saturday, March 4, at the Gale Bullman Building, register online

All are welcome to attend “Poetry is Power: Race and Patriotism in American Poetry” 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. The event will highlight a series of 20^th-century African-American poems focused on complicated issues of America, patriotism, citizenship and race relations. A dessert reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., and student performances of spoken word and song will begin at 7 p.m.

There is an emergency appeal for O- and O+ blood types and a shortage for all other blood types in the local supply. Volunteers may give at the Havener Center in the St. Pat’s Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day from Tuesday, Jan. 31, to Friday, Feb. 3.
