Poetry is Power to examine race, patriotism in American poems

All are welcome to attend “Poetry is Power: Race and Patriotism in American Poetry” 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. The event will highlight a series of 20th-century African-American poems focused on complicated issues of America, patriotism, citizenship and race relations. A dessert reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., and student performances of spoken word and song will begin at 7 p.m.
