Tsatsoulis to speak about research funding

All pre-promotion and pre-tenure faculty are invited to attend an early-career faculty forum titled “Identifying Research Sponsors and Finding Funding” 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Dr. Costas Tsatsoulis, vice chancellor of research and dean of graduate studies, will lead the discussion on this topic and answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Carry a flag in Parade of Nations

Missouri S&T’s Celebration of Nations will kick off with the Parade of Nations at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in downtown Rolla. Organizers would like over 80 countries represented in the parade. You can sign up to carry a country flag. If you will walk in the parade, please arrive at 11th Street, near Centennial Hall, by 10 a.m.

UM System accelerator program to foster, fund student business ideas

Student entrepreneurs in the University of Missouri System could earn up to $30,000 in prize money thanks to a new initiative known as the Entrepreneur Quest Student Accelerator. S&T students can learn more during a general information session 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in Room G-2 of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (IDE), next to Makerspace. Applications for the first program are open through Friday, Oct. 19.

LEAD course assistance available

The learning enhancement across disciplines (LEAD) program provides free walk-in tutoring and faculty-led learning centers in over 60 courses this semester – including all the introductory courses in math, chemistry, physics, and comp sci, and full operation of several more learning centers. First Amendment discussion planned tonight

The Office of Equity and Title IX will host a panel discussion on the First Amendment at 6 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 17) in Room 199 Toomey Hall. Join the discussion on freedom of speech, know your rights and how they affect how we live, learn and work. Attendees will receive free pocket Constitutions. Guest panelists include:

  • David Steelman, chair of the University of Missouri Board of Curators and senior partner at Steelman, Gaunt and Horsefield in Rolla
  • Bob Jerry, law professor at the University of Missouri School of Law
  • Karen Aroesty, regional director of Anti-Defamation League Heartland
