Many factors are used to assess the Missouri S&T police department’s performance, including tracking the number of reported incidents and evaluating the campus community’s perception of safety and security at Missouri S&T. Girls in fourth through eighth grade and their parents or guardians are invited to Missouri S&T to learn about the fun of engineering. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the Havener Center. IGED gives students a chance to explore engineering through hands-on activities and engaging demonstrations hosted by volunteers, student organizations, corporate partners and community organizations. This event is sponsored by Halliburton, Society of Women Engineers and the department of student diversity, outreach and women’s programs. The event is free but registration is required. Visitors to the Curtis Laws Wilson Library can see drawings and paintings from last semester’s Introductory and Advanced Studio courses. The artwork is on the second floor, near the telepresence room and will be on display until the end of the semester. The following works are displayed:

The RE-CAST University Transportation Center and Fulbright Scholar Program will co-sponsor a guest lecture at noon Wednesday, Feb. 10, in Room 209 Computer Science Building. Dr. Saverio Spadea, research fellow at the University of Bath in the UK and visiting Fulbright Scholar at the University of Miami, will give a lecture titled “Bespoke FRP Reinforcement for Optimized Concrete Structures.” All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the seminar.

Rolla youth Tylin Davidson will perform in a walk-on role in the touring Broadway production of Ragtime at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, in Leach Theatre. Davidson will play the part of Young Coalhouse, the sweet and innocent boy of Sarah and Coalhouse Walker Jr., in the final uplifting moments of the musical. Davidson is the 4-year-old daughter of Tyrone and Lynne Davidson of Rolla. Tyrone is manager of undergraduate studies at Missouri S&T, and Lynne is a student service coordinator in counseling, disability support and student wellness at Missouri S&T.

Cerner will present “Building a Network that Works for You” at noon Thursday, Feb. 11, in Room 305 Norwood Hall. Students should bring their S&T ID to the event.

Dr. Donald J. Siehr, professor emeritus of chemistry at Missouri S&T, died Wednesday, Feb. 3. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Main St. in Rolla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Christ Episcopal Church or public radio station KMST.

The first Faculty First Friday of the year will be held on Friday, Feb. 5. These informal lunches provide an opportunity to network and share ideas with your faculty colleagues and university administration. The brown-bag lunch will be held noon-1 p.m. in the Kinyon-Koeppel Grand Hall of Hasselmann Alumni House, located at 1100 N. Pine St. Participants should bring their own lunch, and the chancellor’s office will provide drinks (iced tea, water and coffee) and desserts.
